When KBE first relocated to VA, a flyer came across our desk advertising for a paddling trip to see the dolphins. Until now, none of our guides had a chance to take the trip, but last week finally I had an opportunity, so I took Lydia with me. Opting OUT of the fully-guided tour, we chose to simply rent the kayak instead. That meant we had the privilege of wrestling the kayak off the truck and onto the beach, something Lydia thoroughly enjoyed (note the sarcasm). The launch into the surf was uneventful (though we both got wet), and the trip to the dolphin swimming grounds was relaxing through the small rolling waves. Once there, we saw plenty of dolphins swimming all around us, and one even swam with us for 5 minutes! Lunchtime found us at a quiet spot on some rocks near a lighthouse, and after eating, Jed decided to "surf" the kayak. While it was fun to ride the waves onto the beach, the first attempt ended in a painful bump on the head for Jed--and resulted in a post-adventure trip to the chiropractor for whiplash! Getting back was also relaxing, but trying to get the kayak back on the boat was tortuous... first off the blazing hot sand and then onto the truck. Thanks to an able passerby, we got the kayak onto the truck and returned to the rental place, ending our adventure. If anyone is interested in booking a tour, talk with our guides! (Please make sure you have a good chiropractor before taking this tour.)
